Sleep: Having trouble sleeping? Before you bank on meds to get through the night, try using an air ionizer in your bedroom. Research shows that these devices help your brain release serotonin, a chemical that helps ease your tension and minimize anxiety, all while maintaining a content mental state. Take a trip to your local home goods store and find an Air Ionizer like this one. Not only is it a safer approach to sleeping well, it is a less expensive alternative to stocking your medicine cabinet.

Stress: The practice of acupuncture has been around for hundreds of years to help get your Qi, (vital energy), flowing properly. While acupuncture requires a licensed professional, acupressure is an easy relaxation technique that you can do at home. By applying pressure to certain acupuncture points, you will help release muscular tension and promote the circulation of blood. Try using an acupressure mat at home. Spending just 3 to 5 minutes a day stepping on the mat will help relieve joint pains, lessen headaches and improve your memory.

Fluids: Need a new way to get more fluids into your daily diet?  Try a superfruit smoothie! You’ll get a skip in your step with this antioxidant packed pick-me-up, and it couldn’t be any easier to prepare! Look for a frozen superfruit puree like acai or pomegranate. Blend it with 1 cup of ice and 1 cup of low-fat milk, soymilk or yogurt. Get as creative as you want by adding all types of berries and fruits to the mix.

Diet: The farmers markets have emerged and they’re filled with delicious and nutritious seasonal vegetables. Pay a visit to one and benefit in more ways than one. Seasonal produce is ripened naturally, providing added taste along with a handful of extra nutrients. Our top three choices at this month’s market include: asparagus, spinach and baby carrots. Together they’re great sources of vitamin K, vitamin C, vitamin A and folate. Try adding them to your diet by preparing a cold veggie soup, garnished salad or a seasonal crudité platter.

Personal Time: Summer is finally here and it’s time to take advantage of the warm weather. Skip a day at the gym, and instead, use the hour to take a leisurely walk outside. Not only will you get a bit of exercise, you’ll improve your mood and clear your mind. Sunshine emits vitamin D, an essential vitamin that improves your emotional stability. It’s time to gear up with your Ipod and H2O, and take a stroll towards better health.

Exercise: Bored of pilates? Gotten over the yoga craze? Why not go back to the core basics. By doing just a few core exercises a day, you will tighten your midriff and improve your posture. Simple exercises like squats, crunches and bridges can be done at home, and they will help train your hips, abdomen and lower back to work in unison. Get ready to show off your improved balance and toned body this spring!

Beauty: This month, revive your dry winter skin with a homemade brown sugar scrub.  A simple scrub can be made in minutes using 1/4-cup brown sugar, 1 Tbsp coconut oil, 1 Tbsp macadamia oil, 5-7 drops orange essential oil and a dash of cinnamon. Step into the bathroom and start scrubbing your way to silky smooth skin!
