This month’s tips show you how each of these components relate to each other contributing to a nutritious life. Be proactive about your health and nutrition and focus on what you can do to be as healthy and fit as possible.

Enjoy your January monthly tips!

Stress: Focus and reduce stress. Stop focusing on your to do list and pay attention to what you are doing NOW! A University of Wisconsin study found that by practicing mindfulness (concentrating on what you are doing right now instead of on what you have to do later) you will de-stress and even improve your immune system-something we all need to boost this time of year!

Sleep: Eat healthier and sleep better. New research shows that eating large amounts of high fat foods can disrupt the body’s natural circadian rhythms and make it more difficult to fall asleep. Another reason to steer clear of fried foods, baked goods and butter at dinner time.

Fluids: Drink more and stay slim. Need another reason to drink more water? Dehydration can slow metabolism by about 3%, or about 45 calories each day. Over a year, this can add up to 5 pounds!

Personal Time: Get a massage and de-stress. Massage boosts the body’s immune system, and increases circulation, so you can be sure that nutrients are being delivered to all of your body’s tissues! You don’t need to pay for an expensive massage, even a quick 10 minutes will do the trick or have your partner give it a go-it’s a great way to re-connect.

Exercise: Exercise and be happier. Studies show that people who exercise are less likely to be depressed. Begin an exercise program and feel good about yourself. You may have made the resolution to start exercising for weight loss but it will make you happier as well!

Diet: Eat together and stay healthy. 73% of people think that eating together as a family is either very important or extremely important but only 43% of people actually do that. Studies show that eating together as a family leads to better overall eating habits... so try your best to make it happen!
